Lumpectomy Scheduled for 1/17/03
As expected, Dr. David P. Winchester recommends
lumpectomy followed by radiation. Surgery scheduled for 1/17/03. Second
opinion still scheduled for Tuesday, 1/14/03, with Dr. Monica
Morrow.
There were no surprises during Ann's consultation
with her surgeon, Dr. David P. Winchester, on Monday (1/6/03). As expected, he
recommended a lumpectomy (done as an outpatient procedure with local anesthetic)
followed up with radiation. We view this as good
news.
Ann will still get a second opinion
from Dr. Monica Morrow on Tuesday, 1/14/03. We are taking this step just to
double-check the cancer diagnosis as well as the recommended treatment plan.
Assuming that the pathologists at Northwestern Memorial Hospital also evaluate
Ann's first biopsy as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and the second biopsy as
not cancerous then we expect Dr. Morrow will concur with Dr. Winchester's
recommendations. Consequently, we have asked Dr. Winchester to schedule time in
the operating room for Ann.
Ann is
scheduled for a lumpectomy on Friday, 1/17/03 at Evanston Hospital in Evanston,
Illinois. It is scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon but the time is subject to
change and I understand that it will probably be
earlier.
Thank you for your continued
support.
Love,
Ann and Nello
